NBHRN statement on FBI visits

Solidarity with the boricua's brigade Juan Rius Rivera

August 28, 2022

The National Boricua Human Rights Network condemns the FBI’s attempts to intimidate members of the Committee in Solidarity with Cuba by going to their homes and interrogating them about the recent visit of the Juan Rius Rivera Brigade to Cuba. The brigade promotes humanitarian work and cultural exchange in solidarity with the Cuban people in the face of the decades-long illegal U.S. embargo condemned by the U.N. General Assembly.

NBHRN salutes Cuba, which has a rich history of supporting Puerto Rican independence in the international arena, and which has resisted U.S. efforts to crush its revolution. NBHRN sees these latest visits in the context of the FBI’s long and sordid trajectory of COINTELPRO and efforts to disrupt, dismantle and destroy the movement for Puerto Rican independence, using repression, intimidation, grand juries, frame-ups, defamation, and assassination.

NBHRN recognizes the proud tradition of the Puerto Rican independence movement’s resistance to such repression, including maintaining silence in the face of interrogation and refusing to cooperate with grand juries investigating the movement.
