The St Vincent and the Grenadines/Cuba Friendship Society warmly welcomes and strongly supports the action of the Vincentian Government to nominate the Cuban medical Brigade, named the Henry Reeve Medical Brigade, for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.
The nomination was one of several by Parliamentarians, academics such as the prolific economist and writer Noam Chomsky and leading cultural artistes in support of the Cuban medical professionals. While the nominations have been sparked by the role of the Brigade in assisting many countries to combat the coronavirus pandemic, the Brigade has performed heroic deeds all over the world in the fight against disease, notably in Africa against the deadly ebola disease.
In the case of the Caribbean and Latin America, Cuban medical personnel have been playing an invaluable role in many countries, helping them to strengthen and develop their capacity to combat COVID 19.
At a time of extreme selfishness and narrow nationalism on the part of many countries, particularly rich and powerful ones, the role of Cuba and the Henry Reeve Brigade in particular, is especially commendable for its unselfishness and solidarity. Many countries have publicly not only acknowledged the Cuban contribution but have praised the Brigade and the Cuban government for it.
Ironically, while the nomination of the Henry Reeve Brigade for the prestigious Nobel prize recognizes the role of international solidarity, among the nominees for this year’s prize is someone who represents exactly the opposite – former US President Donald Trump, now facing impeachment charges. There could not be a greater contrast between nominees.

La Sociedad de Amistad San Vicente y las Granadinas-Cuba apoya la nominación del Nobel a Contingente Médico Henry Reeve.
La Sociedad de Amistad San Vicente y las Granadinas/Cuba acoge con satisfacción y apoya firmemente la acción del Gobierno vicentino de nominar a la Brigada Médica Cubana, denominada Brigada Médica Henry Reeve, para el Premio Nobel de la Paz 2021.
La nominación fue una de las varias realizadas por parlamentarios, académicos como el prolífico economista y escritor Noam Chomsky y destacados artistas culturales en apoyo a los profesionales médicos cubanos. Si bien las nominaciones han sido provocadas por el papel de la Brigada en la ayuda a muchos países para combatir la pandemia del coronavirus, la Brigada ha realizado acciones heroicas en todo el mundo en la lucha contra las enfermedades, especialmente en África contra la mortal enfermedad del ébola.
En el caso del Caribe y América Latina, el personal médico cubano ha desempeñado un papel inestimable en muchos países, ayudándoles a fortalecer y desarrollar su capacidad para combatir la COVID 19.
En un momento de extremo egoísmo y estrecho nacionalismo por parte de muchos países, especialmente los ricos y poderosos, el papel de Cuba y de la Brigada Henry Reeve en particular, es especialmente encomiable por su desinterés y solidaridad. Muchos países no sólo han reconocido públicamente la contribución cubana, sino que han elogiado a la Brigada y al gobierno cubano por ello.
Irónicamente, mientras que la nominación de la Brigada Henry Reeve para el prestigioso premio Nobel reconoce el papel de la solidaridad internacional, entre los nominados para el premio de este año se encuentra alguien que representa exactamente lo contrario: el ex presidente estadounidense Donald Trump, que ahora se enfrenta a cargos de destitución. No podría haber un mayor contraste entre los nominados.
